Man watching new wife and step-children

Stepfamily Adjustment

Most people remarry at some point in their lives. Usually, one or both of the partners have children. This new type of family is created. It can be inordinately complex, with ex-partners who are co-parenting, kids who are adapting to new circumstances in each of their parents’ lives, and the new couple forging their own relationship and family dynamics.

This is an important time to be thoughtful about creating respectful relationships, being clear about roles/responsibilities, and trying to communicate effectively to minimize hurt and alienation for all family members.
